Programs

The Fresno County Office of Education’s Department of Safe & Healthy Kids demonstrates a commitment to the field of Youth Development in all of our programs. Our mission statement is "empowering young people to be responsible for themselves and their communities". This mission reflects a deep understanding that young people deserve the opportunity to contribute in real and meaningful ways. Furthermore, we believe that students are some of the most effective, and underutilized resources available to our schools.

The Department of Safe & Healthy Kids is committed to emphasizing the contribution that trained students can make on our campuses and towards addressing some of the complex issues facing young people today. Young people have a voice and a stake in the outcomes of such issues as obesity, bullying and school climate, or even the dropout rate. Our role then, is to guide students into skilled, meaningful action in order to invoke substantive changes in issues that are important to them.

The Safe and Healthy Kids Department operates seven primary programs:

  1. FRESH Expanded Learning Programs
  2. Systems of Support for Expanded Learning
  3. Community Schools
  4. Wellness and Nutrition
  5. PRIME
  6. Outdoor Education
  7. Leadership and Clifton Strengths
