Leadership Academy
Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy was established in 1990 and was the original program that became the Safe and Healthy Kids Department. The ropes course complements the leadership message by giving participants space to practice leadership and get immediate feedback on how they are doing. Scout Island was purchased by FCSS in 2000 and the high ropes course was built in the Spring of 2002. The S&HK department has several staff trained and certified in the high ropes activities, both the low and high ropes course is utilized with schools and various groups.
Discover Your Strengths – Many S&HK staff are certified in the Gallup StrengthFinder and we facilitate workshops geared to help individuals and teams discover how they can use and develop their natural strengths and talents in a way that brings out their best contributions.
Foster and Homeless Youth Leadership Cohorts – The S&HK Strengths Based Leadership Academy offers a transformative experience for students experiencing homelessness and students in foster care, providing them with the tools, support, and opportunities to develop their leadership skills and recognize their own worth. By focusing on strengths, fostering self-awareness, and creating a nurturing environment, the program empowers students to become effective leaders who can make positive contributions to their communities and the world. Through this innovative approach, the program instills a sense of hope, resilience, and self-belief in students, enabling them to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
Migrant Student Leadership – The S&HK staff utilize Gallup Strengths in a spring break weeklong leadership development with our Migrant students.
